Hello Heading.jpg
I'm Emma Heading.jpg

I am so happy to have you here. I am a family lifestyle photographer and videographer (in progress).

I am lucky enough to get to work alongside my husband, James Corbet, who is a professionally trained photographer and excellent mentor. I've learned just about everything I know from him.

Our home here in Surf City, North Carolina is full of love and noise. Emphasis on noise. My husband and I are always on the move, chasing at least one of our four little ones around. With three boys there's never a dull moment!

As a homeschooling mom, I never miss my morning cup of coffee! When I'm not behind a camera or reading aloud around the table, I am working on Beautiful Mundo, a Spanish language curriculum I developed to help families bring a new language into their homes. I'd love for you to pop on over and check it out. It has been the most rewarding and meaningful project I have ever worked on.

As a little girl I was deeply inspired by my grandfather’s work in nature photography. He used to chase me and my brother around with his camera, hiding behind trees and popping around corners to sneak a shot of us. Naturally it was our favorite game and we would keep score to see who was able to avoid the camera frame best. Today, when I hold a camera I think of him and can’t help but feel that joy.

Photography is a way of holding on to all the little moments that make our lives meaningful. My obsession with documenting and capturing memories dates back to my childhood. For hours I would sit by our old home printer scanning my way through boxes stuffed with old family photos. I was convinced I had to digitally preserve each and every one.

I truly am a creator at heart and now that I have kids of my own, I am always thinking of new ways to tell their stories. Feel free to take a quick detour and check out my artifact process here.

As a photographer I strive to capture the smiles we don’t ask for, the moments we forget ourselves and become fully present. The second we ask our children to smile for us, we lose the authenticity of that moment.

The power of a photograph lies in the way a mother looks into her baby’s eyes, or the playful and mischievous glance between brothers. It’s the love and life in the air that can’t be forced or fabricated.

It’s simple. It’s pure.

Our sessions together will be about feeling the joy of being with each other and capturing the love in your family through your interactions. I find only a little guidance is ever really necessary. I would be honored to tell a piece of your family’s story.

We all know how quickly time seems to slip away from us and it is always my hope in my sessions that you walk away with a heartwarming glimpse into your family as it is now to hold onto in the years to come.

Let’s get in touch! I’d love to hear from you and plan your session.
